Catching Up at last!

Finally I am here, my blog for #cck12. I am not a fan of blogging but I agree it's the most accepted way to share information in the Web. I have read again, this time with enough time, Siemens´s seminal article Connectivism: A Learning Theory for the Digital Age (http://www.itdl.org/journal/jan_05/article01.htm) and here are my main thoughts:

The fact that the broad learning theories were developed before learning was impacted by IT is a valid start point for look for a new approach.
The half life of knowledge is shrinking so in many circumstances what we don´t know is more relevant than what we really know.
Learning depends on learner experiences with the world, but the learner can´t be exposed to all the experiences necessary to get all the knowledge he should need. That´s why "other people´s experiences becomes the surrogate for knowledge". I find that this is the key of the connectivism approach.
The knowledge workers and the learning organizations are totally exposed to a chaotic environment because everything is connected with everything and it forces them to form connections to create patterns of information to enhance their decision making process in this chaotic environment.
The Connectivism theory looks for address this challenges.

See you!

  1. I think it is great that you engage in blogging even though you are "not a fan" of it. Maybe once the MOOC is rolling, you will find different ways to exchange ideas that you like better. Or maybe you will start to like it? In CCK08, I had a similar reluctance against the required/ suggested Cmaps but gradually I came to appreciate them. I am curious how you will go on.

  2. Hi Max,

Another way to participate is to join the #CCK12 discussion forums here: http://forum.matbury.com This'll give you a chance to discuss and develop your ideas and interpretations of each week's topics and ideas. We can all help each other to really learn :)

  3. Hi x28de an Matt. My point with blogging is that it is not a collaborative creation tool. I explanin it, when I work with Google Docs, I can share all the creation process with many people, at the same time, concurrently. With a wiki the process is similar, but not concurrently. With a blog, there is a main document and the comments that ultimately don´t enrich the document and in progress convert the page in a mess. I believe that blogs are a new technology for an old way of content creation. What do you think?
